Born in rural America, I grew up in the family lumber business, transitioned to a career in nursing, nonstop solo-sailed the Pacific Ocean (without learning how to tie a knot), and ultimately landed in the Philippines, where I write books and live with my wife and five wonderful children. I love science fiction, science fact, and fantasy because they each engage the imagination in different but equally powerful ways. Storytelling is a cherished part of the human tapestry, and I’m always honored when people lend me a slice of their precious time to engage with one of my yarns. Stories should be believable, our characters should face genuine hardship, but the objective of the storyteller is always to inspire the audience. I keep that firmly in mind while writing. It should come as no surprise that I write with a heavy emphasis on character, action, and dialogue — and my imagination works best on a long leash.
